Singing Loins, The

biog
Self-proclaimed authentic raw folk from the Medway Delta, The Singing Loins sing proudly of the rich tapestry of life embroidered in their gritty corner of the Garden of England. There’s some bad apples and rich pickings to be had from the seedier side of the former docks dominated towns, but a joie de vivre is to be found in amongst the tales of underdogs, suicides, circus freaks, the bereaved, frustrated and heart-broken, the washed up and mentally ill - the jealousies, violence, hypocrisy and religion of humanity....
The Singing Loins are Chris Broderick on vocals, Chris 'Arfur' Allen on guitar and Rob Shepherd on banjo, mandolin & accordion, with John Forrester on occasional stand-up bass. Brod & Arfur started The Loins as a raw, stripped down acoustic duo in 1990 and quickly found themselves championed by local legend Billy Childish, who recorded their earliest recordings live in his bathroom. After a 6 year hiatus the band returned in 2005, releasing an album every other year on the ever reliable Damaged Goods label, and matching an ever more sophisticated musical backdrop with Brod’s often graphic, never flinching, often tender, always colourful odes to life in a Medway town, and short stories from the end of old England’s pier.
The Loins signed to Vacilando '68 Publishing Co. in the summer of 2010 following a determined march up Darland Banks.
